F1 ruminatons

I write this after qualifying for the final Grand prix.
As things stand Alonso looks to be favourite for the drivers title despite being only third on the grid. Even if Vettel wins, I reckon the determined Alonso will be able to manage the race so he ends up champion.
Having said that anything could happen really beacause for various reasons it has been an interesting & surprising season of F1.
If he does win the title, it will be Alonso's 3rd making him one of an elite band of drivers and statistically at least one of the greats.
He is a fine driver for sure but does he deserve to be ranked with Fangio, Senna, Stewart or Schumacher for example? I would say not.
Things are always subjective in F1 as there is usually the difference in car performance to complicate things when comparing drivers for the same era, let alone different generations. But looking at the four names above there can be no doubt they were the dominant drivers of their time & I don't think it takes hindsight to come to that conclusion.
The same can't be be said for Alonso, I don't think you could call him dominant this season, in fact I would rate 3 current drivers as being better than him & much as I hate to say it a certain M.Schumacher looks like he might be a force to be reckoned with next season if Mercedes can get their act together.
So I still think Alonso will prevail this afternoon he has the great advantage of being undisputed No.1 in his team & whereas Vettel/Webber & Hamilton/Button have been taking points off each other all season, Alonso has rarely been challenged by Massa- such is the Ferrari way.
Still its been a good season-can't wait for next year-Hamilton or Vettel I reckon.
